City have just four games of their campaign remaining
Hull City’s players stand on the cusp of achieving something remarkable; something few could have predicted as they lined up for kick-off at the CBS Arena in Coventry on August 9.
Just four games remain for the Tigers, marshalled by Sergej Jakirovic, to secure a place in the end of season play-offs and give themselves a genuine chance of bringing Premier League football back to the MKM Stadium for the first time in almost a decade.
City‘s form may have hit a wobbly spell in the last couple of months, but their position is one that everybody from Wrexham in seventh to Sheffield Wednesday in 24th would give their right arm for.
A four point gap with only four games to play is the envy of those in the chasing pack. Wrexham, Derby County, Leicester City, Sheffield United, West Brom, Birmingham City, Norwich City. Name any of those clubs below the Tigers in the table, and they’d all gladly swap places.

That shows what an incredible position they’re in. The challenge now is to rubber-stamp their spot in the top six – over the course of the next week, they have the chance to make that happen.
Three of their final four games will be played in that period, starting with the visit of mid-table Birmingham City on Saturday. The Blues did the Tigers a big favour last Sunday by seeing off Wrexham, which softened the blow of the defeat at Sheffield United the day before.
Then comes a trip to the King Power Stadium, with Leicester City in utter crisis. Four points adrift of safety, the Foxes are staring down the barrel of a second-straight relegation, so their need is significant for different reasons.
The week is rounded off by what on paper looks like a really tricky trip to Charlton Athletic in what will the final home game of their first season back in the Championship. Nathan Jones will be keen to end it on a high, assuming they don’t get dragged into the relegation scrap in the two games before it.
Two wins may be enough for the Tigers to seal their spot. In truth, nobody knows. All they can concentrate on is taking care of business. If they can collect a decent haul of points from these three games, then the players and their supporters can enjoy the final day without any need for nerves or worry.
This is Hull City, after all, and things are rarely done that easily. But this group have it within their power and grasp to get the job done in the next seven days.
Up those rip-roaring Tigers!
