The striker has been involved in 21 goals for City this season, spearheading their promotion surge towards the Premier League
Former Scotland first team coach James Morrison says Steve Clarke will be aware of the form Oli McBurnie has shown with Hull City season, as he firms up his plans for this summer’s World Cup.
McBurnie was again overlooked by head coach Clarke when he named his latest Tartan Army squad on Monday for friendlies with Japan and the Ivory Coast later this month, as their preparation for this summer’s tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico intensifies.
The City striker has 14 goals and seven assists this season, more than any other Scotland forward, including George Hirst, Tommy Conway and Che Adams, all of whom have been named in the latest squad.
Despite that form, however, and increasing calls from former players to recall him, Clarke has opted against ending McBurnie’s spell in the international wildnerness which is closing in on a span of five years, and leaves his dreams of making the final squad looking increasingly thin after such a long period away.

Speaking to Hull Live, though, the West Brom interim head coach says McBurnie’s impressive form for City this season won’t have gone unnoticed, and if the 29-year-old keeps banging in the goals, then he has every chance of forcing his way into Clarke’s thinking for the World Cup.
“Yeah, I’m if he keeps scoring goals, yeah, I’m sure he’ll give (Clarke a decision to make), I’m sure Steve, – I know he does – he watches, every player with a detail,” Morrison told Hull Live.
“He’ll be aware of Oli; he knows what he can do. He knows what he brings to the squad in terms of his personality, but they’ve got a lot of, well, not a lot of strikers, but strikers who are capable, so he’ll be pushing all the way to the end.”
