The takeaway sandwich and salad bar is proving to be a success

A young local entrepreneur has breathed new life into Bridlington Old Town following the successful launch of Lillies Sandwich and Salad Bar. The new venture was established with support from East Riding of Yorkshire Council ’s Business Support Services team, marking a significant addition to the area’s independent trade.

Lillie Benson, a local university graduate, opened the doors to her business in 2025. She has transformed a former small café premises into a vibrant takeaway sandwich and salad bar, situated in one of the most characterful and historic locations in Bridlington.

Prior to the official opening, Lillie accessed start-up support to ensure the business was built on a solid foundation. Support included help reviewing her business plan and financial forecasts, exploring funding options, navigating grant eligibility and attending the ‘Is Starting a Business Right for Me?’ workshop.

The business support programme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This initiative is designed to help new and growing businesses across the East Riding to start, scale, and create local employment opportunities.

Lillies Sandwich and Salad Bar offers a menu of freshly made sandwiches and salads, complemented by sweet treats baked on-site. These recipes are often developed by Lillie herself during the evenings after a full day of trading. The business has already proved a success, exceeding initial footfall forecasts and attracting excellent feedback from customers. The venture has also created two local jobs.
