A power cut has left residents in an East Riding of Yorkshire village without electricity this morning.

When Northern Powergrid was contacted, a recorded message said an estimated 1,448 properties in the village of Brandesburton, about six miles west of Hornsea, were affected.

The power cut was reported at 10:56am. In an update posted at 11:05, Northern Powergrid commented: “Our team are working hard to understand which customers are affected, so that we can get the power back on as quickly as we can.”

Normally in response to unplanned power outages, Northern Powergrid will send out an engineer to assess the problem and then offer an estimate of when power can be restored.

A separate incident in the James Reckitt Avenue area of East Hull was reported at around 8:30am today. Engineers are already onsite and working on restoring the power.
