The hub will be open weekdays above the town’s library
A new cash hub has opened in Hedon. The hub, operated by Cash Access UK, is above Hedon Library, has lift access and offers a counter service operated by the Post Office.
Cash Access UK is the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash and worked with East Riding Council to find a suitable location. Customers of all major banks can visit the Hedon hub any weekday, 9am to 5pm, to carry out regular cash transactions including withdrawals and deposits, as well as checking balances or paying bills.
Cllr Anne Handley, leader of the council, said: “Ensuring our communities remain connected to essential financial services is very important to the council. The cash hub above Hedon Library will be a valuable resource for residents and local businesses alike, and we are pleased to have worked closely with Cash Access UK to make it possible.”
Gareth Oakley, Cash Access UK CEO, said: “We know how important access to cash continues to be and the cash hub is an ideal solution for locations like Hedon. Massive thanks to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for their support in hosting the new service in the library.”
A cash hub is a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, which include:
- Depositing cash (notes and coins) and cheques
- Withdrawing cash (notes and coins)
- Checking your balance
- Paying utility bills
- Topping up gas and electricity
- Accessing change-giving services (for registered businesses)
Cash Access UK is funded by the UK’s biggest banks who have come together to provide shared services available to all their customers. The organisation says small businesses who accept cash need to be able to easily pay it into their account and that by making it easier for businesses to do this, in turn it should encourage more cash acceptance.
LINK, the UK’s cash machine network, decides where new services such as Hedon’s cash hub are needed. LINK reviews the impact of every proposed branch closure by its member firms and a community can also ask LINK to carry out an assessment of the community if they feel they need better access to cash.
Hedon Library is part of Hedon Centre, in St Augustine’s Gate. More information about cash and banking hubs can be found at cashaccess.co.uk
