Matt Peet paid a classy tribute to Hull KR after watching his Wigan Warriors outfit dominate Rovers’ rivals.

Having just watched his side cruise to a 34-6 Super League victory over Hull FC, Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet concluded his post-match interview on Sky Sports by congratulating Hull KR on becoming World Club Challenge champions.

John Cartwright’s side had been thumped just 72 hours after Hull KR completed a historic quadruple at the home of Hull FC, with an emphatic 30-24 victory over NRL’s Brisbane Broncos. The blockbuster also recorded the biggest-ever attendance for a club fixture at the MKM Stadium, with a crowd of 24,600.

The Black and Whites were no match for Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium, with the Warriors dominating from the first whistle on Saturday evening. Peet spoke to Sky Sports after his side’s five-try triumph and made a point of acknowledging the Robins’ achievements.

“Congratulations to Hull KR for what they did in the World Club Challenge,” he said.

“From myself, the players, and everyone at the club, it was great to see. They were awesome. A proud moment for Super League.”

Rovers meanwhile began their journey to Las Vegas on Sunday ahead of next week’s showpiece event against Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium. The Super League contest will form part of a triple-header in Sin City, with the NRL launching their new campaign with Newcastle Knights versus North Queensland Cowboys, followed by Canterbury Bulldogs against St George Illawarra Dragons.
