The left-back has struggled to make an impact since arriving in East Yorkshire
Defender James Furlong has completed a permanent move away from Hull City after signing a permanent contract with Slovenian side Maribor.
Furlong leaves for the Ljudski Vrt Stadium without ever playing a Championship game for City, having been at the club since his deadline-day move from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2023.
The 23-year-old did appear on the bench against Stoke City on New Year’s Day, but that was as close as he got to playing for the first team in the league having fallen well down the pecking order.

His sole first-team appearance came in an FA Cup replay at Birmingham City under Liam Rosenior’s stewardship in January 2024, and he finished the season on loan at AFC Wimbledon last term before injury curtailed his campaign. That setback saw him miss out on the promotion final at Wembley, where the Wombles sealed a place in League One.
City had tried to get Furlong a move before last Monday’s transfer deadline in England, with a move to League Two coming close to fruition, but in the end, it didn’t happen and he’s opted to head to Slovenia.
Maribor, who are owned by Acun Ilicali, sit third in the PrvaLiga after 20 games, and are 12 points off leaders Celje, albeit with a game in hand.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international will link up with ex-City players Oscar Zambrano, Jean Michael Seri and Benjamin Tetteh at Maribor, signing a deal until the end of the current campaign with the option for a further 12 months. His deal at City expired this summer.
