The Tigers assistant was sent off at St Mary’s last month

The FA have fined Hull City assistant boss Marko Salatovic £1,500 for his sending off in the final seconds of last month’s 2-1 win at Southampton.

Salatovic was dismissed in added time by referee Sam Allison, with City leading 2-1 and eventually holding on for a valuable three points.

The match officials cited various warnings that had been given to Salatovic throughout the game, with four coming for ‘persistent unacceptable behaviour’ before he was then booked in the 49th minute.

City‘s assistant manager then threw a water bottle in what City say was disappointment at Allison’s performance, which resulted in the Croatian being dismissed.

“Marko had already received a Stage 1 (YC) warning at 49 minutes. In the 90+4minute, he threw a water bottle forcefully into the ground within the technical area in a violent and aggressive manner due to a decision I didn’t give on field,” referee Allison said in his summary.

“The fourth official witnessed this incident and informed me that the away team assistant head coach must be shown a red card, with a Stage 2 sanction issued and the individual sent to the dressing room.”

Fourth official Richie Watkins further explained what happened inside the technical area: “Mr Salatovic was warned of his persistent standing and coaching at the front of the technical area, whilst the Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic was doing the same. As per guidelines, only one member of the technical area staff can stand and coach at the front of the technical area.

“He was warned at 7:18, 9:37, 21:30 and 47:10, before I called the referee over in the 49th minute to issue a yellow card for persistent unacceptable behaviour, despite numerous warning offences.

“In the 94th minute of the game, following a perceived missed foul on a Hull player, Mr Salatovic stood up from his seated position within the technical area with a bottle of water in his hand. He proceeded to violently throw the bottle to the ground, with part of it breaking off towards the Southampton manager.

“This can be seen on the MOAS (camera) footage at 93:00 via 18 Yard camera 1.3. I informed the referee that Mr Salatovic’s conduct met the threshold for a red card to be issued, as he had already been shown a yellow card.”

According to the FA: “Marko Salatovic subsequently admitted the charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed a £1,500 fine following a hearing.”

In mitigation, City argued that Salatovic’s lack of experience in English football, his clean record, cooperation, leaving the field immediately and accepting his red card should have seen a suspended punishment. The FA disagreed, but did not give him a touchline ban.
