Here we go back more than 50 years to Hessle Road in its prime. The iconic west Hull area has long had a strong community and a proud history as a major shopping hub in the city, which couldn’t be clearer in these photos from the archive.
You can see in one of the photos that the Coin-Op premises has a remarkable amount of prams outside the shop front, obviously taken on a weekday when mums would be taking washing in.
Shops that are pictured include Izzy Turners Pawnbrokers, York House, Saveplenty Discount Store, Kingston Cycles, and The Measure Shop. These images perfectly capture a bustling Hessle Road that remains an important part of Hull’s landscape all these years later.
