Goole Museum is keen for artists to submit paintings, illustrations, textiles, sculptures, ceramics and digital entries
Budding Basquiats and aspiring Emins can get involved in a brand new art exhibition coming to the area. Bosses at Goole Museum have launched a call out for artists and creative people living in and around the town to submit their work for the popular Open Art Exhibition.
The showcase of local talent is returning in March, and this year’s entries will form part of the bicentenary celebrations. The Bicentenary Open Art Exhibition opens on Saturday, 21 March, and the museum is welcoming all subjects and mediums, including paintings, illustrations, textiles, sculptures, ceramics and digital entries for consideration by its panel of selectors.
As 2026 is Goole’s bicentenary year, marking 200 years since the town’s construction as a purpose-built port town, entries that are inspired by Goole’s rich heritage are particularly welcome. The museum’s Open Art Exhibition, now in its 12th year, celebrates the creativity of local amateur and professional artists, and provides an exciting opportunity for members of the community to display and sell their artwork.
Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We are particularly excited to welcome local artists to submit their artwork for this year’s Open Art Exhibition as it’s the town of Goole’s 200th birthday. ’Previous exhibitions have seen a fascinating array of artwork and we are sure that this year will be better than ever, adding another wonderful cultural event to Goole’s Bicentenary celebrations.’’

Dr Alex Ombler, curator at Goole Museum, added: “This year we’d like to encourage entrants to submit artwork that celebrates Goole’s rich heritage, but all subjects will be considered by our panel of selectors. We’d also like to invite new entrants to submit their work at the museum, which is a very friendly and welcoming place. The gallery for our temporary exhibitions is a great space to showcase and, or, sell your work.’’
To enter you can download an entry form at www.eastridingmuseums.co.uk/whats-on/. Forms can also be picked up from the museum on Carlisle Street. Alternatively, people can leave their details at the museum or call on 01405 768963 to have a form sent out, or email goole.museum@eastriding.gov.uk
The dropping off dates for artwork to the museum are Tuesday 3 March, Saturday 7 March, Tuesday 10 March and Saturday, 14 March. The exhibition will be on display until Saturday, 16 May. Last month the museum announced five exciting exhibitions announced as part of Goole’s bicentenary.
