The 25-year-old has completed a loan move from Bristol City
New Hull City signing Yu Hirakawa says he’s arrived at the club with the aim of winning promotion to the Premier League. The 25-year-old has completed a loan move from Bristol City until the end of the season and goes straight into the squad to face Preston North End at Deepdale on Tuesday evening.
Hirakawa trained for the first time with his new team-mates on Monday afternoon after completing the formalities on a switch from City’s promotion rivals. Signed from Japanese side FC Machida Zelvia in July 2024, the Japanese international has made 66 appearances for the Robins, including 27 appearances this season. He was a second-half subsititute when Bristol City beat the Tigers back in August.
The Japanese ace played 25 minutes in the goalless draw at Oxford United on Saturday, though he’s been restricted to just three starts under Gerhard Struber. He does, however, join City fit and in good condition to help a side decimated by injuries at present.

“I am so happy to join this club,” said Hirakawa. “I can’t wait to meet all the fans, and I am looking forward to playing at the MKM Stadium.
“I have never played at the stadium before, so I am looking forward to meeting all the fans of the Tigers. I want to contribute to this team. My strong point is creating chances and I will do my best.
“We are going in the right direction and I want to help this team get promotion. I want to score goals and make special moments for this team. I am so excited.”
Just four points separate the Tigers from Bristol City in the promotion race and the pair are set to meet at the MKM Stadium on February 7.
