The money raised will go to a local animal rescue

A Hull burlesque performer is organising a dazzling night of entertainment. Cabaret Allustra will showcase local talent, including burlesque and singing on Saturday, March 14.

Tickets for the event at Ritz Showbar in Holderness Road are £10 at the early-bird rate, or £15 full price, with concessions available. Event organiser Amethisté Allustria Amor said there will be “a fair few burlesque performers”, as well as singers, baton-twirling, and hula hooping.

“I have done burlesque and performing for a long time and I’ve always wanted to put on a show myself, but also I wanted it do some good, so I thought of making it geared towards local charity,” she said.

Ren’s Wildlife Hospital was picked as the chosen charity because Amethisté loves animals and, as a smaller independent charity, it benefits hugely from grassroots fundraising efforts.

Describing the acts, Amethisté said: “Most people are new to performing or, if they have gone professional, they are in their first couple of years, so it is getting that platform to do things in a safe space.

“I’ve also tried to make sure I have got a diverse cast, so I’ve got people that identify as having disabilities and people on the LGBTQ spectrum, and from the people of colour communities.”

Amethisté has always loved the performance arts, including acting and singing. When Amethisté discovered burlesque, she said it was a “way of getting body confident which it has inspired over time”.

She added: “I’ve met an amazing community of people that I don’t think I would have met any other way – a very diverse group of people. It’s helped me to like myself a lot more and I want other people to feel that way too.

“It gives you a chance to express yourself. With it being something so empowering, you have got your own rein over your choreography and scenes, so you can express things you might not be able to express as easily in other forms.”

Cabaret Allustra is on Instagram and tickets can be purchased on Ticket Source. Amethisté said people can request a 50% discount code “no questions asked” if they message on Instagram.

She said this is for “anyone who needs it, possibly due to health issues, anyone with a low income, elderly or retired people, or if they are part of marginalised communities such as BIPOC, people who have disabilities or are neurodiverse, or anyone who identifies as gender diverse”.

As part of the night’s fundraising efforts, there will be a raffle. Donations for prizes, big or small, are gratefully accepted; if anybody can help out they are asked to please email amethisteallustriaamor@gmail.com.
