The teenager was assaulted and suffered a head injury, police say

A 19-year-old man suffered a head injury in an assault in Hull’s Old Town on Friday night, police said today. The victim fell unconscious and was admitted to hospital with a head injury.

Humberside Police said the incident began when a fight broke out in a Whitefriargate bar, which then spilled out onto nearby Silver Street. A 19-year-old was then assaulted, collapsing to the ground.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released in bail and the force is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “Officers attended reports of an altercation which started inside bar on Whitefriargate in Hull at around 9.50pm on Friday evening (16 January 2025).

“It is reported that an altercation took place between a group of men which led outside onto Silver Street resulting in a 19-year-old man being assaulted before becoming unconscious and falling to the ground.

“Emergency services where deployed, and the 19-year-old man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a head injury which is not thought to be life threatening.

“A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and has since been released on bail pending further investigation.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that may assist with our enquiries, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 26*7141.
