The Tigers players and staff are enjoying Christmas Day off before the Boxing Day clash at Hillsborough

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has wished Tigers fans health and peace in his Christmas message to those who have supported him since his arrival in the summer, revealing he felt a connection early on in what has been an enjoyable tenure so far.

The Croatian, who will be spending Christmas Day with his family after they flew in to East Yorkshire a few days ago, has transformed the Tigers into play-off contenders this season, despite many expecting City to struggle this term.

Jakirovic’s side now faces up to four games in 10 frantic days between now and January 4 to cement their place in the promotion-chasing pack, starting with a Yorkshire derby at struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day, before fixtures with Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Watford to round off a busy schedule.

“Merry Christmas,” the Tigers boss said to the club’s supporters. “I wish them a lot of health because this is the most important thing in our lives, that you are healthy. Other problems are coming and going, so I hope they have health and peace, of course.”

The City boss has also revealed how grateful he is for the support that’s come his way since replacing Ruben Selles in June, following the club’s narrow escape from relegation last term.

Despite operating under transfer restrictions during the summer window, Jakirovic has been able to put together one of the Championship’s most exciting teams, and one that’s challenging for a place in the top six as we approach the halfway point of the season.

“I’m very grateful because you could see the chemistry between us immediately,” he added. “You can see they are very supportive, no matter home or away.”
