A big celebration is being lined up to mark the start of the festive season with special guests and entertainment

A Beverley shopping centre is hosting a spectacular Christmas lights switch-on and firework display this month including a host of special guests. The evening, hosted by Adam Smith on Friday, November 14, promises a packed schedule of festive entertainment for all the family, including a live performance from Matt Terry, the 2016 X Factor champion.

Known for his emotive performances and soulful voice, Matt will bring a dash of star quality and festive spirit to the event. Meanwhile, crowd favourites The Trilogies – comprising Emmerdale’s Bradley Johnson (Vinnie Dingle), Freddie Bolt, and Nigel Passey – are set to make a comeback following their show-stopping performance last year.

Their smooth harmonies and feel-good classics from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Billy Ocean, and Elton John are sure to have everyone joining in. Local talent will also be in the spotlight, with performances from rising star Lewis Pemberton and the winners of this year’s Flemingate Future Star competition – Beverley’s 12-year-old Leo Rena and North Ferriby’s 22-year-old Giorgia Ursell. Grace Langley, last year’s winner, will return to the stage to pass on the crown.

Adding an extra sprinkle of magic, Elphaba and Glinda will perform a show-stopping number from the eagerly-awaited Wicked: For Good as well. On top of that, the cast of Talegate Theatre’s Dick Whittington and the Linkage College Choir will add festive charm and community spirit to the line-up.

Jo Bridgeman, marketing and events manager at Flemingate, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome families back. Head over to Flemingate for what has become one of Beverley’s most cherished festive traditions. With an impressive line-up, fireworks, and the grand light switch-on, this year promises to be our most magical celebration yet.”

The event starts at 5pm and will climax with the Christmas light switch-on and a dazzling musical firework display at 6.45pm, with the evening concluding at 7.30pm. Along with all the live entertainment, guests can also savour seasonal food and beverage stalls, fairground attractions, Christmas shopping opportunities, and a special appearance from Father Christmas himself during the evening.

Event planners are recommending visitors arrive as early as possible. Armstrong Way will be shut to vehicles from 11am until 10pm, with diversions in place. The multi-storey car park is expected to reach capacity quickly, so alternative parking arrangements or walking are recommended.
