The summer signing from the Turkish Super Lig is still waiting to ignite his Tigers career

Hull City assistant boss Dean Holden says Enis Destan is edging closer to a first start for the Tigers as he waits to get off the mark in Black and Amber.

Destan has only been used off the bench since arriving late in the transfer window, having recovered from a knee injury after his move from Trabzonspor.

So far, the 23-year-old Turkish striker has amassed just 95 minutes of action, with his 18 minutes off the bench against Preston North End the most he’s played, and he’s yet to find the net.

The forward played nine minutes on Tuesday night as City fell to their first defeat in seven games at the hands of resurgent Derby County, and was involved in an altercation at full-time with Danny Batth, which saw referee Stephen Martin and boss Sergej Jakirovic intervene.

Destan, though, is pushing to be handed a full debut this weekend when Portsmouth visit the MKM Stadium in the final outing before the international break.

Kyle Joseph has been the ever-present through the middle in recent games with the absence of star striker Oli McBurnie, but Destan could be given a chance to impress from the start, with Joseph moved wide or even rested after a busy run of games.

“No, he’s not from the start (had the opportunity to impress from the start),” Holden told Hull Live. “He’s obviously suffered from one or two little niggles since he’s come into the club. He’s taken a little bit of time to get up to speed, I think, and that’s normal with any player moving to a different club, different country.

“Obviously, the Championship’s different as well in terms of the rigours. We’re pleased with Enis. He’s training well and he’s waiting for his moment, and I’m sure when he gets it, he’ll take it.”
