The Tigers’ injury list continues to mount up

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says he’s never before seen the injury sustained by Matt Crooks that could see the influential midfielder ruled out for two months, in what would be another devastating blow.

Crooks hurt his chest on Tuesday night when he slipped in the build-up to Liam Millar’s opening goal against Leicester City, and though he was able to play on, he has been in some discomfort.

The experienced Tigers star played 69 minutes on Saturday as City were denied a fourth straight win by a 91st-minute Charlton Athletic leveller, before being replaced by Liam Millar. Though in a cruel twist of fate, Millar hurt his hamstring shortly after and had to be replaced by Darko Gyabi, and he will have a scan on Monday to assess the damage to the Canadian winger.

Crooks will see a specialist on Monday to determine whether or not he does, in fact, need surgery, and whether he will be able to play in the remaining three games before the international break against Norwich City, Derby County and Portsmouth.

“Matt Crooks, I saw this for the first time in my life, this injury he picked up against Leicester,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “He fell down alone. Normally, this injury occurs in boxing, kickboxing, karate or UFC.

“He played today (Saturday), and on Monday, he will go to see a specialist to see what the options are. One doctor said that he needs to go and have surgery, and if he goes for surgery, it’s two months out, so we will see.

“Maybe he can play till the national break, but this is just my wish. The doctor will decide it. He’s good, he’s OK. Maybe after the game, he will feel something, but now he’s good.”
