City conceded in added time to be held to a 1-1 draw
Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic says Liam Millar will go for a scan on Monday after limping out of the 1-1 draw with the Canadian’s former club Charlton Athletic.
Millar was only introduced as a second-half substitute in the 69th minute, with City leading 1-0 courtesy of Joe Gelhardt’s strike a minute into the second period.
Unfortunately for the winger, Millar went down with what looked to be a hamstring issue eight minutes from time and was replaced by Darko Gyabi.
Millar, who celebrated the birth of his daughter, Summer, on Friday, was visibly frustrated as he headed down the tunnel, and will go for a scan on Monday to determine the extent of an issue which is so common in players coming back from ACL injuries, and happened to Mo Belloumi earlier this season.
“It is his hamstring, and he will go on Monday for a scan, and then we will see what the damage is,” Jakirovic told Hull Live.
That injury to Tuesday night’s hero Millar, was the major negative on an afternoon that looked to be ending in style for the Tigers who were on course for a fourth consecutive league win until Luke Berry turned in after being left unmarked from a 91st-minute corner.
“Now I’m disappointed, but also I’m proud of the players because we took from the last four games, 10 points, and of course we may have lost one goal from a set piece, and lost our concentration and focus,” the Croatian continued.
“Especially because we have players there in the zone to protect this, where this ball is coming from. Maybe every game, when we made substitutions like this, maybe we’re losing our structure inside the box, but what we can do.
“Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, because we have scored in a few games in additional time as well, so this is football.
“I think that we played very well. We changed today’s system because we expected exactly the way Charlton played.
“Especially with two big strikers, fast strikers. We had a lot of problems before this game, especially in positions, some positions, and this is the reason why we changed and that we had to be pragmatic. Behind we had the stability, and I didn’t feel from my bench that we are in danger, that I expected long balls, a lot of first and second balls and challenges, and we were very successful in that.
“Maybe we lacked the second goal to win the game because we had a lot of opportunities for that.”
