Vehicles were being driven in a manner likely to cause nuisance to others

Two motorists have been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices after breaching the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) at Hessle Foreshore. At about 12.40am on Saturday, October 17, police officers witnessed two vehicles being driven in a manner likely to cause nuisance to others, including excessive acceleration, engine revving and the deliberate production of loud exhaust noises.

The conduct caused disturbance and annoyance to local residents, and was in breach of the PSPO. Fixed Penalty Notices were subsequently issued to both drivers.

Hessle Foreshore is subject to a PSPO, introduced to address ongoing anti-social behaviour and vehicle-related nuisance during late evening and early morning hours. One of the conditions of the order prohibits the unnecessary use of vehicle horns where it is likely to cause annoyance, alarm, or distress to others.

Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said: “We are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and protecting the quality of life of local communities. Public Space Protection Orders play a key role ensuring that our communities remain a good place to live, and we will continue to undertake enforcement action against individuals who breach them.”
