Fishwick struggled for opportunities at KR
Former Hull KR prop Zach Fishwick has penned a deal to join Super League outfit York Knights ahead of the 2027 season.
Fishwick was released by the Robins at the end of the campaign after struggling for opportunities under Willie Peters. The prop has been given a top flight lifeline by York though and he has penned a one-year deal with the club.
Fishwick joins a club that share his goals, with the forward trying to establish himself in the Super League, just as York are. And, the 21-year-old will hope to pick up plenty of minutes under Mark Applegarth next season after a testing period at Craven Park.
He made nine appearances in the red and white of KR, but seven of those came in 2022 as a 17-year-old.
He failed to appear in each of the next three seasons, with loan spells coming at Featherstone Rovers, Bradford Bulls, Hunslet, Halifax Panthers and Batley Bulldogs. He made two appearances for the club this season, though, with Peters giving him the nod to feature in much-changed sides against Wigan Warriors and St Helens.
“I’m extremely grateful for this fresh start and proud to be joining York Knights,” Fishwick told the Knights.
“After a few frustrating years, I’m excited for the opportunity to work with Mark.
“It’s a new chapter for me. I’m very much looking forward to working hard with everyone, kicking on from here, establishing myself as a Super League player and doing the club proud on the field.”
Head coach Mark Applegarth added: “At 21 he’s still got plenty of learning to do and his best years in front of him.
“He’s a player I first tried signing when he was 14-years old in my old role at my old club and he’s someone I’ve kept an eye on.
“He’s had a taste of Super League early so he knows what he’s about.
“Until we get our youth system up and running and get our own talent on a yearly basis, we’ll be looking at other club’s prospects that don’t fit into their plans and nurturing them under our umbrella.
“I’m really excited to be working with Zach and excited to see what he can do.”
