She admitted misconduct in public office by having a personal relationship with a prisoner
A female prison officer who had a relationship with a prisoner has been warned that she could face a custodial sentence. It was a “serious” offence and the matter involved an abuse of a position of trust, Hull Crown Court heard.
Ellie Fitzgeorge, 23, of Main Street, Wintringham, near Malton, North Yorkshire, admitted misconduct in public office at Hull between November 1 last year and January 21 this year, by having a personal relationship with a prisoner. She entered her guilty plea when the charge was put to her for the first time.
Defence barrister Julia Baggs said that, following discussions with the prosecution, there would no basis of plea and the details of the case had been resolved. “It is obviously a serious matter,” said Miss Baggs.
Fitzgeorge had no previous convictions. The case was adjourned until November for a pre-sentence report and Fitzgeorge was allowed bail until the next hearing.
Judge John Thackray KC told Fitzgeorge: “You understand all options are open, including immediate custody.”
