Cayless is expected to travel to East Yorkshire in the coming weeks to begin life as Hull KR head coach
Hull KR are preparing to welcoming a hungry head coach who has strong values in Nathan Cayless, says outgoing boss Willie Peters.
After a lengthy selection process, Cayless has been selected as the man to take over at Craven Park following the end of Willie Peters’ history-making four-year reign at the club.
Cayless will head over to east Hull in the coming weeks to begin pre-season with most of his KR squad in November and he’ll welcome a handful of new signings, too, with Rovers confirming their first signing of the off-season Moala Graham-Taufa earlier this week.
The 48-year-old will be making the move to the Northern Hemisphere for the first time having spent his entire career, both as a player and a coach, down under and the next few months will certainly be a learning curve for him.
Peters has made himself available to help the former New Zealand international settle in at Craven Park in whatever way he can though and the departing Robins boss believes Cayless is the right man to help KR take the next step.
“We’ve spoken,” Peters said about Rovers’ new head coach. “We’ve had a call. I’m here to help in any way with the handover and then Nathan will takeover from there.
“We’ve had a chat on the phone and exchanged messages. Whatever he needs I’ll help him.
“I played against him. He obviously had a bigger and better career than me but I always knew him from playing against him.
“His biggest strength from when he played was that he competed hard and he’s a good person from what I know. He has strong values and I think he’ll be very similar to what we’ve had and he’ll obviously put his spin on things.
“No doubt as a coach he’ll be hungry and wants success and he’ll put his spin on things of how to get that.”
