Delivering Joy campaign will provide gifts to those who might otherwise go without
Hull homewares store Dunelm is joining in the national chain’s bid to spread some festive cheer this Christmas. The Clough Road shop has taken Dunelm’s Delivering Joy campaign to its heart and would like to help in another record-breaking Christmas of gifting items to people in the local community who might otherwise not receive anything.
Delivering Joy is an initiative that sees shoppers pick a gift tag from an in-store tree, then buy or make a present for someone in need within the local community. The gift is then dropped back at the shop for it to reach the recipient in time for Christmas.
Sophie Barley and Savanna Allan are co-ordinating the campaign at the Clough Road store. They said: “We wanted to reach out to help spread the word about Delivering Joy.
“This is our first time helping the NHS, including the Hull Women and Children’s Hospital and people staying overnight there at Christmas.” The Hull store also intends helping Dove House Hospice, in Chamberlain Road; Saltshouse Haven care home; NHS Little Stars, Humbercare and four primary schools based in Hull.
Since 2020, Dunelm has donated over 500,000 gifts across the UK and last year broke records, by helping to deliver 272,000 presents. The gifts do not need to be bought at Dunelm – as long as the content of the gift bag matches the information provided on the chosen tag, and will bring joy to the person described on it, you can fill it with anything, from anywhere (the only thing that cannot be accepted for health and safety reasons is anything perishable such as food and drink) and crafters who wish to make their own gifts are urged to “get creative”.
Every single bag will be checked by in-store colleagues, against a set of guidelines that have been compiled with the help and guidance of the charities and schools Dunelm is working with. Gifts will need to be brought back by the date stated on the tag so there is time to Deliver Joy to each local school, care home or other cause.
Where a store has run out of tags, givers can also donate a gift online to Dunelm’s charity partner, Age UK.
The Delivering Joy campaign goes live on Tuesday, October 13. You can find out more in store and at Clough Road, you can speak to Sophie or Savanna for more information.
