Kyle Amor has raised doubts over Hull KR’s chances of adding to their trophy cabinet in the coming years after the Robins were dethroned on all domestic fronts in 2026.
Willie Peters masterminded a record-breaking campaign in 2025, guiding Rovers to a domestic treble before completing a historic clean sweep with a World Club Challenge victory over Brisbane Broncos in February.
But former Super League-winning prop Amor believes Hull KR ’s ‘ageing’ squad could struggle to replicate those successes after falling short of the challenge of being the hunted rather than the hunter.
The Robins were knocked out of this year’s Super League play-offs by Warrington Wolves, suffering a 35-12 defeat after being forced to play with 12 men for almost 40 minutes.
Experienced centre Peta Hiku was sent off just a minute after half-time for punching in a game that also marked Peters’ last in charge, with Nathan Cayless set to take over ahead of the 2027 campaign.
“I thought that game summed up Hull KR,” Amor said on All Out Rugby League Back Ten.
“That 80 minutes summed up their season. When they went down to 12, they were brilliant. The fact they went down to 12 was another discipline issue that we’ve seen a number of times.
“Dare I say, there were a couple of shortcuts in there as well.
“I mentioned it last week, the win over Brisbane Broncos was fantastic and cemented all four trophies and was a huge moment in the history of that club.
“I am concerned about them moving forwards. An ageing squad – I’ll throw it out there – I don’t think they will win another trophy for a number of seasons now.
“I think their inability to back up being hunted – it’s a different mentality to winning a trophy than going to defend it.
“Teams that are able to do that back-to-back, it takes a different kind of mentality and a group that leads that.
“I think some members rested on their laurels and thought, ‘We’ve done it all now’.
“I thought maybe they’ve lost their desire, hunger and appetite to be that team to go again and again.”
