Hull City star Sorba Thomas has escaped ‘unscathed’ from a car crash outside the club’s training ground this morning after flipping his car onto its roof.
The club have confirmed the new summer signing is uninjured after the accident just before 9am this morning as the player was making his way to training before the final session, with the team then departing for London ahead of tomorrow’s game at Chelsea.
Images emerged online this morning of Thomas’ Land Rover on its roof close to the club’s Millhouse Woods Lane training ground in Cottingham. The full details of how the accident occurred remain unknown, but Thomas walked away unscathed.
The winger, who joined City from Stoke City just last week, sustained no injuries and is therefore expected to be involved in the club’s clash with Chelsea.
Confirming the incident, the club said “Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.
“The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”
The news comes as a relief following the images doing the rounds on social media, with the damage to Thomas’ car appearing to be extensive. It is understood two other parked cars were dameged in the incident, but nobody was harmed.
Humberside Police said in a statement: “Officers and emergency services are currently in attendance following reports of a road traffic collision on Millhouse Woods Lane, Cottingham at around 9am on Friday, 11 September 2026.
“The road remains closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate effectively.”
Millhouse Woods Lane is a very narrow street that leads to the club’s training ground, with little room for cars to get through.
Phil Redshaw, a local councillor, visited the scene on Friday morning and said two parked cars, a blue Mini and a black 4×4, had also been damaged. He said he had contacted the club recently regarding the road to the training ground, to remind the new players about concerns from residents.
Mr Redshaw told the Mirror: “I wrote to the Hull City club secretary on Sunday asking them to remind players to be careful driving down the road because of the residents’ concerns. I wanted them to remind their staff to drive with extra care, because they get new players in every season.”
The 27-year-old made his debut for the Tigers last week in the draw with Aston Villa, which was the winger’s first ever appearance in the top flight. He got his first start for the club on Tuesday night at Sunderland in the Carabao Cup, too.
A Wales international of 27 caps, Thomas will be looking to prove himself in the top flight with City as the season progresses.
