‘A transformative moment for Bridlington’

Construction on Bridlington’s brand-new multi-storey car park, in Beck Hill, is reaching its final stage, with the official opening to the public scheduled for next month. East Riding Council has invested £15.5m to create the 426-space car park, between Manor Street and Hilderthorpe Road.

The aim of the car park is to boost footfall in the area, relieve local traffic congestion, support local businesses year-round and be a key piece of the wider town centre regeneration strategy. Designed on behalf of the council by architecture firm Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher and built by principal contractor Henry Boot Construction, the facility features striking vertical twisted exterior fins crafted to resemble ocean waves – a nod to Bridlington ’s iconic coastal landscape.

The project also included improvements to the nearby Gypsey Race watercourse, enhancing the local green area connecting to the Gypsey Race Park. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony involving local council representatives, community leaders, and project partners will take place in October, ahead of the car park opening to motorists.

Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding Council, said: “The opening of the new Beck Hill multi-storey car park this October is a transformative moment for Bridlington. This facility directly addresses historic parking challenges during busy seasons while creating a clean, modern gateway into the town.

“By making it seamless for residents to shop locally and for tourists to explore our brilliant town centre, this multi-million-pound investment will provide a long-term boost to the local economy.” Further details regarding parking charges, operating hours, and payment methods (including digital app options) will be available via the council’s website closer to the opening time.
