Two deadline day signings weren’t involved for the Tigers on Saturday
Hull City will be without new signing Ilyas Ansah for a minimum of six weeks due to a spine issue, Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed.
Ansah was the first signing over the line on deadline day for the Tigers, with the towering striker joining from Union Berlin for a fee that could rise to as much as £21 million.
However, City fans will have to wait to see the striker in action, with his medical showing a slight problem in his back. The club sent Ansah to see a specialist this week to get some clarity on the issue and they have now been told that the German should sit out the next month and a half.
“Six weeks out, this is minimum,” Jakirovic said on his striker. “It’s interesting, if we didn’t send him for a medical, if he signed without medical, he would play.
“They found some problems with his spine I think. The specialist’s recommendation is to stay away from the pitch for six weeks so we will see.
“Now we will try to make sure that he has a good recovery and then he can join us.”
The Tigers were also without Tim Iroegbunam on Saturday with the midfielder, signed from Everton, still recovering the groin injury which ultimately saw City delay his signing from earlier in the window to deadline day.
Hidemasa Morita also missed out with issue he suffered in pre-season.
“Precaution,” Jakirovic said on Iroegbunam. “He had a good session in the morning and our plan is give him some minutes on Tuesday.
“Also Matt Crooks is there and Morita is out two more weeks. We were a bit tight with this position. We have midfield players but these are number six players. I hope they will join the team as soon as possible.”
