Humberside Police gives thanks for service of firearms support dog

A canine who has worked tirelessly to help keep communities safe is stepping down to take life a little easier – and she departs with the thanks of Humberside Police. The police force has today paid tribute to firearms support dog PD Roxy as she retires.
A post on social media by Humberside Police said: “Today marks the retirement of PD Roxy following her final shift with Humberside Police. Roxy teamed up with her handler, PC Young, back in March 2022, and the pair have been the dream team ever since.
“As a firearms support dog, Roxy has played a vital role in keeping our communities safe. Throughout her career, she has detained and assisted in the detention of hundreds of criminals, as well as helping to locate and support vulnerable people.
“Among her many memorable moments, Roxy assisted officers during the disorder in Hull in summer 2024 and, earlier this year, travelled to Northern Ireland to support officers during further disorder. But perhaps her most important job has been making sure Al got home safely after every shift. She never let him down.
“Roxy will be hugely missed by the whole Dog Section, but she’s now ready for a well-deserved retirement and will be happily staying with Al and spending her days in peace with her numerous four-legged friends at home. Thank you for your service, Roxy.”
The post was met with many replies wishing Roxy a very happy retirement. One said: “Happy retirement Roxy, paws up.”
One person commented: “You deserve all the belly rubs and treats, Roxy! Enjoy your retirement.”
Another said: “Bless her. Thank you for your service PD Roxy, enjoy a long and happy retirement chasing rabbits for a change.”
