The Hull FC half-back has been linked with a move away from the club.
Andy Last refused to speculate on an end of season Hull FC exit for half-back Jake Arthur, with the signing of Daly Cherry-Evans perhaps putting the writing on the wall.
The Black and Whites landed the Australian half-back on a one-year deal for the 2027 season earlier this month, with the current Sydney Roosters star set to partner Will Pryce in the halves under incoming head coach Steve McNamara next season.
As per reports from Love Rugby League this week, that means that the club are open to letting Arthur leave despite the player having one year remaining on his Hull contract. He signed a two-year deal from NRL outfit Newcastle Knights ahead of the 2026 season, partnering Aidan Sezer, who is also expected to leave the club, throughout the year.
Per those reports, Arthur is now set to join fellow Super League outfit Huddersfield Giants for 2027, with Jim Lenihan assembling a new look side for next season and closing in on a deal.
Asked about Arthur’s reported move and if it’s come about by the signing of Cherry-Evans, Last told Hull Live: “I don’t want to go into speculation on Jake’s future, but I do know that Daly Cherry-Evans is an exceptional signing for our club and Jake’s been a good contributor to our team in the year that we’ve just had.
“His level of performance has been good. He came up with a great moment for us on Saturday with that drop-goal (match winner against Catalans). He’s been good for us.”
Last also commented on the signing of Jordan Swann, with Hull acquiring the Australian centre on a two-year deal from 2027. The 24-year-old is currently playing in the Queensland Cup for Brisbane-based club Wynnum-Manly Seagulls.
“I’ve seen little bits of him,” Last added. “He’s a player who will contribute to our team. He looks athletic, fast, and strong. It should be a good signing for us.”
