A “package” of road improvement works in the East Riding is set to begin in Hessle and Willerby. East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced a £1.8 million investment to deliver resurfacing works across south-western parts of the region, with work scheduled to begin on Monday, August 24.
The project will include seven junctions along with work on footpaths and drainage in a number of towns and villages, with overall completion expected by December. Contractor Britcon UK Ltd will carry out the works on behalf of the council, beginning with phases in Hessle and Willerby before moving to sites in Anlaby, Market Weighton, Howden, Snaith, and North Cave.
The scheme kicks off at the junction of Boothferry Road and Heads Lane in Hessle, where all approaches to the signalised junction will undergo resurfacing alongside kerbing and path repairs. Expected to last up to four weeks, weather permitting, this first phase will require temporary traffic signals on Boothferry Road, using one half of the dual carriageway at a time. To ensure safety during surfacing operations, Heads Lane will be closed to traffic from 7pm to midnight, Monday to Friday, between Monday, September 7 and Friday, September 18.
Kerb replacements and path repairs will also begin on August 24 at the Willerby Square roundabout. Resurfacing of the roundabout and its approach lanes will follow between Friday, September 4 and Monday. September 21, operating under evening working hours of 7pm to midnight, Monday to Friday.
The roundabout will be closed during these times in two stages to facilitate the work: Main Street, Carr Lane, and Kingston Road eastbound will close from Friday, September 4 to Friday, September 11, followed by closures on Beverley Road and Kingston Road westbound through to Friday, September 21.
Once the initial phases in Hessle and Willerby wrap up, the highways team will roll out road improvements at other locations. Drivers can expect future works along Springfield Way in Anlaby at the junction with Wolfreton Drive and Wolfreton Road, the A1079/Holme Road roundabout in Market Weighton, the A614/ M62 Howden Spur roundabouts, the Selby Road/Beastfair junction to the county boundary in Snaith, and the Newport Road/M62 junction leading into North Cave.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “These road improvements are necessary, and I want to thank residents and drivers for bearing with us.”
