Peters will be forced to make changes over the next week or so
Hull KR’s Bill Leyland will be eyeing up game time over the next week and a half
Willie Peters has decisions to make over the coming days as he attempts to keep his side as fresh as possible.
The Robins have now entered a run of four games in two weeks with a rearranged clash with Warrington Wolves next up on the schedule, just five days after Thursday’s win over Catalans Dragons.
The visit of Toulouse Olympique is up next on Saturday before the Robins head to Wigan Warriors next Thursday night. It’s a nightmare run but KR have the opportunity to head into the play-offs in a hot streak of form if they can avoid defeat during that run.
Peters will keep things as strong as possible but he’ll have to freshen things up too and here’s five who will be eyeing up this run as an opportunity.
Bill Leyland
Leyland came off the bench to play the final few minutes of Thursday night’s game against Catalans and he can expect to get more minutes over the next week and a half or so as Willie Peters looks to keep Jez Litten as fresh as he can possibly can.
The hooker’s best moments this season have come while out on loan at St Helens and while he has made 10 appearances this season, so many of his runouts have been fleeting. He’ll be determined to make the most of whatever game time he gets over the coming games then and with Nathan Cayless watching on from down under, he knows he has the opportunity to make an impression.
Louix Gorman
The centre was a shock selection at 18th man on Thursday night and that was enough to suggest he could get a little bit of game time moving forward, particularly with Oliver Gildart carrying a minor ankle injury.
He is fit having played for Salford last week against Swinton Lions at the Brick Community Stadium and if he does play, he’d be making his first appearance for KR since making his debut in 2023.
Jack Charles
Charles’ chance might just depend on the fitness of Tyrone May, who picked up a knock in the win over Catalans on Thursday. He was withdrawn with 10 or 15 minutes to play and Peters confirmed the injury in his post-match press conference at Craven Park.
Speaking previously, Peters has outlined that he believes Charles is more suited to play on May’s side and that seems to point to the youngster being a natural replacement for the May should he miss any game time.
Tevita Pangai Jr
He’s no youngster, but Pangai Jr will feel as though he has a point to prove over this period after making a sluggish return to action on Thursday following the completion of a six-game ban. He is playing for a contract, either at KR or elsewhere, and with just five more regular Super League games remaining for KR, he doesn’t have too long to make his point. He’ll be going all out to make an impression then.
Noah Booth
Booth’s KR career has been in fits and starts so far as he feels his way into the first-team picture. It seems unlikely that Peters will go with his first choice outside back line-up in each of the next three games and Booth, to his credit, seems to be the first cab off the rank in that respect.
He’s made six appearances this season so far so he’ll be looking to kick on and take the next step in his career next year under Cayless and a solid performance in the next week and a half or so would certainly make an impression.
