Lewis will make his comeback from suspension next week.
Willie Peters has insisted that Hull KR star Mikey Lewis will learn from his latest suspension when he returns to action against Warrington Wolves on Tuesday night.
Lewis will sit out the fourth and final game of his four-game suspension against Catalans Dragons this Thursday before returning to action in next week’s rearranged game against the Wire side, where he made the two offences that saw him banned.
And in a critical period of the season for Peters, whose side will fancy their chances of at least picking up a home play-off spot, he has backed the half-back to make a positive return to the side.
“He has started to be more vocal in team meetings now that he’s getting closer to coming back,” Peters said. “I think it’s been good for him to be able to sit back and watch where we can be better.
“We’ve spoken about the calmness of the team in terms of our attack at the moment, and he’ll learn from this period.
“It’s good for him to be able to sit back at times. When you’re in the midst of it week-to-week, you can get caught up in the rugby league treadmill. He’s been able to take a breath.”
Rovers have won all three games in Lewis’ absence, defeating Hull FC, Bradford Bulls, and Castleford Tigers.
Tougher challenges await, but for Peters, it’s composure that is getting the Robins, who have fielded Ryan Hampshire in the halves alongside Tyrone May, over the line – and composure that is now the challenge for the Hull-born star.
“He needs to learn from his situation that put him on the sidelines,” Peters added. “I’m confident when he comes back that we’ll see an energised Mikey Lewis.
“He needs to be that calm head because that’s what has helped us to get through these last three games, especially the Hull FC game. We were down 12-0, and it was composure that got us back into it.”
