Andy Last has outlined what Hull FC can expect from Bailey Hodgson next season.

Andy Last believes new Hull FC signing Bailey Hodgson’s preference will be to play full-back next season – with his qualities best suited to the role.
Hodgson has signed a two-year deal with Hull and is expected to slot into FC’s spine alongside Will Pryce and Jake Arthur, who could yet play in the halves together pending the club’s recruitment, which is still in the works under incoming coach Steve McNamara.
However, Last, who confirmed Pryce’s expected positional swap to Hull Live last week, has highlighted Hodgson’s versatility, with the ability to play at centre and on the wing potentially crucial to the Hull side next season.
Speaking on the club’s new recruit, Last said: “We haven’t spoken in great detail regarding next year with Steve, but he’s a player whose preference probably would be to play full-back, but he’s very versatile. He’s played on the wing and played at centre, but like I say, probably his best spot is at fullback.
“He’s got a strong backfield carry; he’s very competitive, all the Hodgsons are. I know Josh very well, and by all counts, Bailey is cut from the same cloth. Jeylan Hodgson is as well. They are very competitive, and they train exceptionally hard.
“That’s going to raise training standards. He is also someone I know from his time at West Hull. He was a standout performer in the West Hull team that he played in. He made his Super League debut against Hull back in 2020 for Castleford. He’s a player I know well and one that will add a lot to our group.”
Last will work under McNamara alongside Scott Taylor next season, who will return to the club as an assistant coach.
“It’s a good appointment,” Last said. “Tag is enthusiastic; he’s a rugby league anorak and very passionate about the game and very passionate about Hull FC. I’m looking forward to working with Tag.
“He will be jumping in the wrestling and the contact and telling them how it should be done. He’s a great character, and he will be good for this club.”
