Scott Taylor will re-join Hull FC next season.

Scott Taylor has stated the chance to work with incoming head coach Steve McNamara at Hull FC next season was too good to turn down.
The former player, a club legend after a 178-game stint from 2016 to 2023 that included two Challenge Cup triumphs, will return to his boyhood club this autumn, as reported by Hull Live back in June. He will work under McNamara as one of his assistant coaches in a new look performance group at the Black and Whites.
Taylor will leave his first professional coaching role at Goole Vikings at the end of the season, re-joining Hull in time for pre-season this November. The former prop forward has been in charge with the Vikings for the last two seasons, and as a player, spent numerous years at the helm of local community side Beverley A.R.L.F.C.
He had plenty of options on the table for 2027, but a return to Hull FC and the opportunity to work under McNamara proved to be the deciding factor.
“I’m very happy to be returning to my boyhood club,” Taylor said on the upcoming move. “After retiring from playing, I chose to begin my coaching journey in the professional game, and after two superb years at Goole, I’m delighted to be taking the next step to return to a club I know incredibly well, and work under a coach who I have huge respect for and can continue to learn from.
“I’m incredibly excited to work with Steve in 2027 and beyond – we have known each other a long time and he is someone I have always admired as a coach. He was a huge factor in my decision to take the next step in my coaching career and return home to Hull.
“I had a few options in front of me for next season, but having spoken to Steve about his plans and his beliefs, they fell straight into line with what I wanted. Off the field, the club is currently in a really strong position, and I’m excited to get back and help play a role in strengthening our position on the field too.”
Meanwhile, chief executive Richie Myler is backing Taylor to add ‘plenty’ to the club upon his return, with his knowledge and experience cited after stints at Hull, Wigan Warriors, and England. The club’s Chief Executive has also stated more performance changes are in the works – as previously reported by Hull Live.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Scott back to the club for the 2027 season,” Myler added. “Scott has taken some important steps in his coaching career over the last couple of years and gained valuable experience at Goole. This is a good opportunity for him to continue that development as part of Steve McNamara’s coaching team for 2027.
“Steve is making some significant changes to our coaching and performance structure ahead of next season, and Scott is another important addition as that new-look team continues to take shape.
“He knows Hull FC extremely well, understands what the club means to our supporters and has a genuine connection with the place. I’m sure he’ll bring plenty to the environment, while also having the opportunity to continue learning and developing under Steve.
“There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes in preparation for 2027, and we’re looking forward to having Scott back with us and seeing the new coaching and performance team come together.”
