Resurfacing works will begin on five streets across Hull, as part of Hull City Council’s work to improve the city’s footways. The programme will see deteriorated sections of paths resurfaced and reconstructed on Burslem Street, Dover Street, Seagrave Grove, Bempton Grove and Stonesdale.
The council says the works will help to provide smoother, safer and more accessible routes for pedestrians. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday 3 August and is expected to take around four months to complete, weather permitting.
The works will be carried out in the following phases:
Phase one: Burslem Street – Monday 3 August to Friday 14 August
Phase two: Dover Street – Monday 24 August to Friday 11 September
Phase three: Seagrave Grove – Monday 14 September to Friday 16 October
Phase four: Bempton Grove – Monday 19 October to Friday 6 November
Phase five: Stonesdale – Monday 9 November to Friday 27 November
Signed diversions will be in place as the works will require footpath closures. The council says access will be maintained for residents and letters have already been delivered to affected residents on Burslem Street. The letters provide details of the works, anticipated disruption and contact information for any queries. Residents on the remaining streets will receive advance notification before works begin in their area.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Good quality footpaths are something many of us take for granted until they begin to deteriorate. They play an important role in helping people get around safely every day, whether that’s walking to school, catching the bus, visiting neighbours or simply getting out and about.
“These improvements will repair worn sections of footway, provide smoother and safer routes for pedestrians, and help prevent more costly repairs in the future. Investing in our neighbourhoods means looking after the infrastructure people rely on every day. We thank residents for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out.”
The scheme is part of Hull City Council’s Capital Maintenance Programme and will be carried out by S&R Groundworks on behalf of the Council.
