Mourgue was named in the 21-man squad but didn’t feature against Wakefield Trinity
Hull KR full-back Arthur Mourgue is nearing his return to action from injury.
Willie Peters has high hopes that Arthur Mourgue will be fit enough to feature for the Robins at Warrington Wolves this weekend.
Mourgue was included in KR’s 21-man squad to face Wakefield Trinity last weekend after overcoming his second pectoral injury of the season. However, after spending two months on the sidelines, Peters made the decision to save him for another week at least.
The full-back is fully fit at this point but the head coach felt as though he needed more time to prepare himself for his Super League return.
“It was a confidence thing for him,” Peters said when asked how close Mourgue came to playing for the Robins against Wakefield on Saturday. “He needs to be ready to go, hopefully he’ll be ready for next week.”
Rovers will also be hoping to welcome Dean Hadley and Tom Amone back into the fold after their respective head and eye socket injuries.
And, after losing four of their last seven games in all competitions, KR really need to bounce back with a strong showing against Warrington, who have lost their last two but still sit a place and two points ahead of the Robins in the Super League table.
Another poor result could even see KR drop out of the play-off picture with Leigh Leopards and St Helens behind the east Hull outfit on points difference alone.
“We’ll have a look at it, we’ll do the same process, I’ll speak to coaching staff, they’ll come up with their teams and then I’ll make the final decision,” Peters added as he addressed the possibility of changes to his squad.
“We just need a better performance. Of course we need to win but we need to be playing a lot better than that otherwise we’ll get a similar outcome.”
