Mourgue has made just four appearances this season
Arthur Mourgue could be set to feature for Hull KR this weekend, head coach Willie Peters has confirmed.
It’s been a testing season for the Frenchman so far, with Mourgue playing just four competitive games in a Rovers shirt.
The full-back ruptured his pectoral muscle in the World Club Challenge and had to go under the knife in order to fix the issue before spending close to three months rehabilitating the injury.
He did eventually make a return to action, with Mourgue getting the nod to play at Leigh Leopards in May. But he went down in the second half with another pec injury and has been out ever since.
It means he missed the Challenge Cup final and he has been forced to watch on from the sidelines with Rovers’ form being up and down ever since.
Ultimately, he hasn’t been cleared to play this weekend against Wakefield Trinity just yet, but Peters has high hopes of being able to select him at full-back on Saturday evening.
“Arthur needs to do a fitness test to see whether he’s going to play,” Peters said. “He did full training then which was positive, it’s just whether he can play this week or he can’t. We’ll look at that later on in the week.
“If he plays it will be a positive, he’s obviously really important to what we do. He’s had some unlucky injuries this year, doing it twice. We just have to make sure that he’s right to go. He just did full training and he looked sharp, which is a positive.
“We have to be very careful. He’s with the medical team and we have to make sure from a confidence point of view that he is OK.”
Rovers have been without Joe Burgess and Sam Luckley due to respective shoulder and knee issues, but both men have trained this week.
“I’m hopeful they get through, they did a full session today as well and they’re on track. It’s positive in terms of they got through,” Peters added.
“There’s a chance they’ll return but they need to get through the back end of the week as well. I’m hopeful they’ll return. It looks positive, it’s more just about getting through captain’s run.”
