The renamed thoroughfare will honour the club’s return to the Premier League
St Stephen’s shopping centre is calling on Hull City fans to nominate their favourite player to have a walkway temporarily renamed in their honour. The gesture is to celebrate the team’s triumphant return to the Premier League.
The city centre shopping destination will install special signage in August, bearing the name of the player chosen by the local community. The renamed thoroughfare will serve as a “good luck” gesture ahead of the Tigers opening Premier League fixture, with the tribute remaining in place throughout the month.
Fans can nominate their favourite player by emailing StStephensNominations@citypress.co.uk by Tuesday, June 30. Nominations should include the player’s name and why they deserve the honour.
Jim Harris, centre manager at St Stephen’s, said: “Having Hull City back in the Premier League is a huge moment for our city. St Stephen’s is at the heart of the community, so we wanted to mark the team’s achievement with something that genuinely reflects that pride and brings people together.
“Letting fans choose which player gets their name on our walkway felt like the perfect way to celebrate and show we’re behind them as they head into the Premier League.”
Thousands of fans flocked into Hull’s Queen Victoria Square on bank holiday Monday to welcome their Tiger heroes back from their historic Wembley win last Saturday (May 23).
Oli McBurnie scored a 95th minute goal against Middlesbrough at the Championship play-off final, promoting the club.
