Arthur Mourgue has been given a slim chance to feature this week in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Arthur Mourgue’s long road to recovery is nearly over, with the Hull KR full-back nearing full fitness after the first long-term injury of his career.

The French international has been sidelined since suffering a torn pectoral muscle during the World Club Challenge against Brisbane Broncos in February. Mourgue was forced off in the first half at the MKM Stadium, though the Robins went on to secure an emphatic victory and complete a clean sweep of trophies over the past 12 months.

The 27-year-old’s return had been pencilled in for Hull KR’s Super League Round 11 clash with Leigh Leopards. However, there remains a slim chance he could feature as early as this week in the Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington Wolves.

Head coach Willie Peters has stressed he will not take any risks after Mourgue’s lengthy spell on the sidelines – but the full-back could be named in the extended squad for Sunday’s tie at the Eco-Power Stadium.

It has been a long time coming for Mourgue, while utility Jack Broadbent has been playing in his absence at full-back – helping Hull KR to six wins from nine to climb to fourth in the table.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Bench, Mourgue recently reflected on the injury, with his rehabilitation now nearing completion.

“I’m really excited,” he said.

“It’s been quite a long time for me, and the first injury for me. It’s one of the biggest – it was a torn pec just before half-time, and I felt it straight away.

“It’s fine now. I went to see a specialist, and I’m really happy with where I’m at.

“I was scared to be back late, but it’s looking like I’ll be on time.”

Hull KR face Warrington Wolves on Sunday for a place at Wembley, having beaten Sam Burgess’ side in dramatic fashion in the capital last year to kick off their treble-winning campaign.
