City and Wrexham are level on 70 points going into the final day
Hull City will go into the final day of the season with a play-off place still within their grasp, after champions Coventry City beat Wrexham 3-1 at the CBS Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Wrexham will go into the final day sixth, but level on 70 points with City and the Red Dragons having a better goal difference by just one. City have scored one more goal, should it go down to that which it would if goal difference were to be level.
While a draw would be enough if Wrexham lose and Derby fail to win, in all likelihood, City would need to find a first win since the end of March.
The Tigers’ 2-1 loss at Charlton Athletic on Saturday made it six games without victory, as their poorest run of the campaign continued in South London.
Charlton’s win was also enough for them to seal safety, with Oxford United relegated after two seasons in the Championship, despite a thumping 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Given a guard of honour by the Red Dragons ahead of kick off, Coventry started well and were a goal up in front of a capacity CBS Arena crowd when ex-City target Brandon Thomas-Asante powered in the opener from Ephron Mason Clark’s pinpoint cross.
Phil Parkinson’s side responded well, though, with Ollie Rathbone slamming in the equaliser after 25 minutes, and just six minutes after falling a goal down. They almost snatched the lead before the break, but George Thomason’s effort cannoned back off Carl Rushworth’s post.
A fairly low-key second half came to life in the final 10 minutes when Victor Torp crunched in a stunning free-kick past Danny Ward to give the champions the lead once again. Another former City target, Kieffer Moore, missed a good chance in the final seconds to drag the Welsh side level, but powered his header over Rushworth’s bar.
As important as Kyle Joseph’s goal-saving tackle in stoppage time at The Valley was Mason-Clark’s strike deep into added time, which reduced the goal difference to just one, and gave the Tigers real hope when they face Norwich City in their big MKM Stadium finale.
On the final day, Wrexham host Middlesbrough, while Derby County welcome Sheffield United to Pride Park, with all games kicking off at 12:30pm.
