Jack Broadbent has impressed for Hull KR in recent weeks but Arthur Mourgue is on the comeback trail
Willie Peters knows a big selection headache is on the way as Arthur Mourgue edges closer to a Hull KR return to action.
Mourgue has been absent since picking up a pectoral injury in the World Club Challenge back in February and he has since gone under the knife and spent the last two months on the road to recovery.
Should all go to plan, Mourgue is now just three weeks away from being available for selection once more, with the May 16 clash with Leigh Leopards pencilled in.
However, the recent form of Jack Broadbent in the role ensures Mourgue could be made to wait for his chance in the KR side. Broadbent has been in superb form over the last few weeks, making the full-back position his own and demonstrating once more that he deserves a starting spot in Willie Peters’ side.
Dropping him for a fit again Mourgue would feel harsh then, but Peters is paid to make the tough calls and he will certainly have a decision to make in the coming weeks.
“It’s always tough and what makes it tougher is Jack is starting to hit form now,” Peters said. “We speak around his game and he had a really strong pre-season but that didn’t transfer early on with his performances and that can happen. “But, because he’s had that strong pre-season, you find your way and I think he’s doing that now.
“He seems to be moving better and he should know his role because he did a wonderful job for us last year, and he does know his role. Sometimes it happens for you, sometimes it doesn’t, but he’s certainly playing really well and back to the form that we know he’s capable of. It’s pleasing to see.
“We’ll worry about that when it happens, but we hope that we’re in a position that we have to make some tough calls because we’re going to have and we will in terms of our forwards, so it’s a good position to be in and I’m not complaining there.
“I’m just pleased to see Jack get back to the form that we know he’s capable of.”
