A total of three men and three women have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder
Six people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was seriously assaulted in Hull city centre at the weekend. Police say the 53-year-old man suffered a “life-threatening head injury” in the incident in the area of Queen Victoria Square in the early hours of Sunday (April 19).
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.40am after receiving a call from a member of the public reporting an altercation had taken place between a group of people. The 53-year-old man was taken to hospital where “he remains in a critical condition at this time”.
Humberside Police have issued an update into their investigation, confirming six people have been arrested. Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Leanne Murphy, said: “I understand this will cause significant shock and concern within the community, and I would like to offer reassurance that I have a dedicated team of detectives and officers working at pace to identify those involved.”
Three women, aged 20, 20 and 21, and two men, aged 27 and 34, were arrested on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder. This follows the arrest of a 49-year-old woman on Sunday who was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Murphy added: “Investigations remain ongoing and my team is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the events leading up to what happened. This includes reviewing CCTV footage in and around the area, house-to-house enquiries and taking witness statements to obtain a clear picture.
“A scene guard was previously in place on Carr Lane to allow officers and Crime Scene Investigators to conduct their enquiries, and while I can confirm this has now been lifted, there will continue to be an increased police presence in the area. This is both to carry out enquiries and to also provide additional reassurance to the local community, and I would encourage anyone in the area with concerns or information to speak to them.
“We continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, who has not already spoken to us, and may have witnessed the incident to please come forward.
“If you have any CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 26*52263.”
Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
