Hull KR have found their rhythm again with four wins in a row.
Willie Peters has been pleased that news of his impending departure has not disrupted his Hull KR side – with the Robins making it four wins on the bounce since the announcement with a dominant 46-0 win over Toulouse Olympique.
The all-conquering head coach is set to leave the East Hull club at the end of 2026 to take charge of the new PNG Chiefs franchise in the NRL, but there’s been zero sign of distraction on the pitch. Since the confirmation, Rovers have swept aside St Helens, Hull FC and most recently Toulouse in a clinical display.
They’ve also booked their spot in the Challenge Cup semi-finals after seeing off York Knights – keeping their trophy defence firmly on track.
Rovers eventually ran riot in the south of France, piling on eight tries to hand Toulouse their heaviest defeat of the season – and a sixth loss on the spin after the French side’s bright start back in the top flight.
Hull KR are now just four-points behind the leaders on the table with a game in hand, and are in the play-off picture for the first time this year.
“I certainly didn’t want it to become a distraction, and I’m glad we got to move on pretty quickly,” Peters said.
“There’s a massive part of the season to come, and that’s what we’re focussed on. The players have got a few days off now which is well earned, and was planned for them. Then we’ve got Bradford, which will be another difficult game.”
Captain Elliot Minchella marked his return from a minor hamstring injury with an immediate impact at Stade Ernest-Wallon, scoring the opening try inside nine minutes – with a second ruled out by the video referee shortly after.
Toulouse showed early resilience to keep Rovers at bay for much of the opening period, in what developed into an end-to-end contest, before Hull KR stepped up a gear and asserted their dominance.
Tries from Rhyse Martin and Dean Hadley gave Rovers an 18-0 half-time lead, with Martin also reaching a personal milestone of 1,500 career points.
A second-half onslaught followed, with a double from Joe Burgess alongside further scores from Jez Litten, Jai Whitbread and Peta Hiku – the latter celebrating his new 2027 deal with a 70-metre intercept try.
Peters added: “I’m really happy with that performance.
“It was 6-0 for a while there, but I didn’t want the players to get frustrated by that. Sometimes you can, and we had a try disallowed and probably should have had a few more points.
“I liked that we got through that period, and found some points in the back end of that first half – I thought we were really dominant for that period.
“If we went in at 6-0, then so be it. But it was nice to get a couple of tries at the back end. I liked what we did early, and we didn’t get frustrated by just the one try.”
