A decision has been made on Hull FC forward Jed Cartwright.

Hull FC back rower Jed Cartwright will leave the club at the end of the season, as confirmed by head coach and father John Cartwright in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

Cartwright Senior confirmed that the club have made the decision not to offer Jed a new deal, with the decision coming to light after the York Knights game at the end of February – the game where the back rower tore his hamstring once again.

The 29-year-old is currently in rehab and is still ‘around six weeks’ away from a return to action as per the injury update put out by the club last Friday. That injury was the latest blow of what has unfortunately been an injury-hit spell at the Black and Whites, with the player, who joined Hull back in June 2024, limited to just 19 appearances from over 50 games.

Suffering hamstring, pec, and concussion issues since joining the club, Cartwright Junior’s latest blow has seemingly promoted the club to make a decision, with his father John also set to leave the club at the end of the season.

However, that reality was not one of the ‘minor disagreements’ the head coach revealed have occurred between the board in the lead up to his own incoming departure.

Speaking in his press conference, Cartwright said: “That (Jed’s exit) has had nothing to do with it (John’s exit). Since the day I walked through the door, any negotiation was between Jed and his manager – and I stood well clear of that.

“Jed has known since the York game that he wasn’t going to be contracted here beyond this year. As far as decisions that were made between me, Jed, and the club, it couldn’t have been more clearer. They made that decision and I understand that. Jed understands it. There was certainly no bad blood about that.”

The back rower is one of several players out of contract at Hull come the end of the season, including the likes of Brad Fash, Ligi Sao, Yusuf Aydin, and Tom Briscoe, albeit the club have a one year option on the veteran back. A full round up can be found here.
