Jo Ince has always had a “huge passion” for rugby
A care home successfully granted a resident’s wish by taking her to watch her favourite rugby league team in action. Jo Ince, 79, is a lifelong Hull FC fan.
Jo saw her dream of once again cheering on the Black & Whites come true thanks to Care UK’s Beverley Parklands, where she is currently living. To bring back fond memories of the sport she loves, the care team arranged for Jo to attend a game.
She watched a dramatic fixture against Leeds Rhinos and soaked up the atmosphere at the MKM Stadium. Hull FC came out 24-16 winners at the game on Sunday, March 22.
Jo’s experience was made possible thanks to Care UK’s Wishing Tree initiative. It allows residents to suggest ideas for new hobbies they’d like to try, places they’d like to visit, or even activities linked to past careers.
This encourages residents to lead fulfilling lives. From skiing to a fish-and-chip supper, no wish is too big or small for the team to try to grant.
Sammi Atkin, Home Manager at Beverley Parklands, said: “Rugby has always been a huge passion for Jo, so being able to arrange a return to Hull FC was incredibly special.
“Seeing her back enjoying the matchday atmosphere was fantastic for everyone involved. From kick-off to the final whistle, it was clear Jo had a brilliant time.
“Moments like this show just how important it is for residents to reconnect with the things they love, and we were delighted to help make that happen.”
Beverley Parklands is a modern care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care and day club support to offer carer relief.
Designed to enable residents to lead active and meaningful lives, the building has its very own pub, hair and beauty salon, bowling green and terraced balconies.
There is also plenty of space – both in and outdoors – for relaxation and recreation.
