Humberside Police has shared dozens of pictures of loved ones at the centre of the Legacy Independent Funeral Directors scandal. The photographs include family members whose bodies were recovered from Legacy’s Hessle Road premises in Hull.
The pictures – all have been released with the consent of bereaved families – also relate to ashes of loved ones. The move to identify many of the Legacy victims comes as a plea hearing for former funeral director Robert Bush, 47, took place at Hull Crown Court this morning (Thursday, April 2).
At the court, Bush changed earlier pleas to guilty on 30 charges of preventing the decent burial of a dead body. He also admitted theft of money from charities.
A date for his sentencing is being fixed for July. There are expected to be about 240 victim statements.
A “complex, protracted and highly sensitive ten-month investigation” was launched by police into concerns regarding the care of the deceased at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, in March 2024. Ashes and 35 bodies were removed from the Hessle Road premises during the investigation and in July 2024, officers confirmed they had identified 163 families linked to the ashes.
