A man has been arrested
Armed officers were called to Withernsea following reports of a man “carrying what was thought to be a large knife”. Police have been at the scene throughout the day following the incident on Seathorne that started shortly before 10am today (March 31).
Humberside Police say officers from the Armed Response Unit were deployed following the report and “a man was swiftly located exiting the property”. During a search of the man, a key was found to a van parked outside.
When it was searched, the vehicle was found to have a “small amount of suspected class A drugs” inside. A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “A 55-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of class A drugs and remains in police custody assisting with our ongoing enquiries at this time.
“Thankfully, no one is believed to have been injured or threatened as a result of the incident, and enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances around the report and recover the weapon that is believed to have been seen.
“If anyone has any information or concerns, please speak to our officers when you see them out and about, or call us via our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 162 of 31 March.
“To report anonymously, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
