‘The trail gives residents an excellent opportunity to discover and enjoy one of Hull’s most treasured green spaces’

The second section of the Hull Nature Trail has officially launched, providing a circular route around the popular Oak Road Playing Fields. Accessible from both Beresford Avenue and Oak Road, the path invites residents to explore the 75-acre site and its diverse amenities, including the well-used fishing lake, skate park, and children’s play area.

Oak Road Playing Fields are home to a rich variety of wildlife, offering residents the opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy one of the city’s green spaces. This latest section follows the successful opening of the first 1.2-mile stretch along the Holderness Road Drain in October 2025.

A soft launch event, led by the council’s Parks and Open Spaces team, took place on Wednesday 18 March to mark the opening. Following the event, Councillor Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council said: “I am delighted to see the next part of the Hull Nature Trail open to the public.

“The trail gives residents an excellent opportunity to discover and enjoy one of Hull’s most treasured green spaces. By improving access to nature, the trail supports wellbeing, education and our ambition to encourage more people to explore the city’s scenic outdoor routes.”

The project focuses on reconnecting the public with lesser-known green spaces of the city, encouraging exploration and a deeper connection with nature. With the Oak Road section now complete, the council is looking ahead to further expansions scheduled for the spring and summer of 2026, which will continue to link green spaces across the city.
