The Tigers know they must beat Sheffield Wednesday this weekend

Liam Millar believes the experience in Hull City’s dressing room will play a big part in helping the Tigers through the tough times in the remaining weeks of the season.

City were thumped 3-0 at West Brom on Saturday and could see their now three-point gap to seventh-placed Wrexham wiped out if they don’t get a positive result against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, in their final outing before the international break.

The Tigers’ form has hit the rocks in recent weeks with three defeats in their last four games, but with eight games to go City remain in a terrific position, and their fate firmly in their own hands. The issue is, the gap to them and the chasing pack has gone from nine points to just three in less than a week, owing to in-form Southampton claiming successive victories.

Millar has played in each of City’s last 20 league games since returning from a hamstring injury, taking his tally of Championship appearances to over 70, joining the likes of Semi Ajayi, John Egan, John Lundstram, Oli McBurnie, Paddy McNair and Kieran Dowell in boasting valuable experience of playing in England’s second-tier.

“Sometimes you don’t play well, and you get results that can only happen for so long. As long as the majority of our games we’re playing well and doing everything the gaffer wants us to do and everything we believe in, I feel like the results will follow.”

“In those moments where things are tough, if you haven’t been in this situation before, you don’t know what to do. It can sometimes swallow you up, I feel.

“A lot of us have a lot of Championship experience, and of going up and playing in the play-offs. I feel like that really helps to get through the games where we need that extra push that can help us get through tough moments.

“We have players in the team who know how to win games. That’s been the biggest driving factor this season, I feel, compared to last season. This season, I feel like we know how to win and we figure out ways to win games. I feel like that’s the biggest difference.”
