The Tigers suffered more Hawthorns agony after delivering a woeful away display
West Brom interim head coach James Morrison will allow himself the opportunity to enjoy the rare “winning feeling” as the Baggies posted their first win of 2026 with a comprehensive 3-0 win over 10-man Hull City, who suffered a major blow to their play-off hopes.
The Baggies took advantage of Charlie Hughes’s dismissal for a professional foul with goals from Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo and Isaac Price, the latter coming in added time at the end of a dominant display.
Maja’s strike came 24 minutes in before Hughes was sent off for a last-man foul on Jed Wallace 12 minutes later, leaving City to play for the best part of an hour with 10 men, and they couldn’t recover from an awful start.
It’s three points which lift Albion out of the Championship relegation zone, and Morrison was pleased with the efforts of his players against a Tigers outfit who came into the clash on the back of an impressive win at Wrexham on Tuesday night, while the Baggies were held by Southampton 24 hours later.

“I’m going to enjoy the winning feeling; it’s been a long time coming,” Morrison said after a significant victory. “It shows the work we’ve been putting in. The lads have taken on board what we’ve said and have executed to the level required. It was a top performance from start to finish.
“I was a bit apprehensive with it being the third game in a week, but there were some top performances out there. One of the big things in this time is that we are going to have to fight for every ball, and they gave even more than what I expected. I’ve asked for consistency heading into this game and putting layers on the performances. It was there, and I enjoyed watching it.
“There are a lot of tired bodies because of the physical output in fighting for every ball, but the togetherness has been growing, and everybody is proud of themselves. There’s a lot of noise in the dressing room.
“Even at the start of this season, this has been a tough place for teams to come to. We have talked about getting the home form back and we had to put the show on for the fans to come with us – they could see it.”
Though Oli McBurnie had two half-chances in the first half, Albion rarely looked in much danger thereafter, and were dominant even before Hughes’ red card.
“I was very impressed with the performance. From start to finish, we were on top and creating chances. We had 26 shots, and we were hitting the target. We were ruthless in front of goal,” he continued.
“We came out at the start of the second half and we were a bit cagey, but then we started to get to grips with things and played our game. We kept attacking and kept Hull going back towards their goal. We continued with fast attacks, which I keep asking the lads for. Credit to them.”
